I learned how to sample on the AKAI which is very helpful because I love the authenticity of the AKAI. I never had the chance to handle vintage samplers so this was definitely a dream come true for me. I also love the sonics that the AKAI produces and I want to get one when I have my studio.
These skills have helped me expand my horizons. Examples like Moor Mother make it evident that creating what you feel in your heart should be what you make. I have also come to appreciate that music more and being open to all sounds helps for personal inspiration. Because I have such diverse inspirations it helps me step out of my comfort zone and not just do whatever ‘feels comfortable’. I should push the boundaries and create anything.
I would like to develop my instrumentation more because the music I want to create is very acoustic based and I want to know how to think of different chord progressions on the spot. I would also like to develop my mixes, especially for the vocals as I want to record my voice more and work with other artists.
I would also like to develop my knowledge of the VCV Rack further. This was the hardest part of this unit especially since I missed out on the lecture however I had to play catch up at home. It is a very complicated-looking DAW but I know it is effective so I want to watch more tutorials and see other people using it because that will help me understand it more.
Overall this module has helped me research different methods and paths to create music. I love the fact that it has forced me to step out of my comfort zone because that positively had an impact on me.
